PROJECT ENGINEER

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

The Project Engineer is responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the electrical construction staff under the direct supervision the Project Manager while gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks and functions of the project.  The Project Engineer is directed in several aspects of work to acquire knowledge in estimating, engineering, and project management.  This position reports directly to the Project Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Supports the staff on the project by tracking and maintaining pertinent information including, but not limited to, product submittals, subcontractor compliance, extra work orders (EWO,s) and materials
  • Generates meeting minutes/notes and may attend meetings as requested by the Project Manager
  • Assists with vendor quote requests while gaining knowledge of the process
  • Handles customer closeouts utilizing METL tracking methods
  • Cleans up simple as-built drawings from the field (non-engineering jobs)
  • Manages request for information (RFI) correspondence as required by the project
  • Works closely with all project managers, foreman, and project staff to provide support for a successful project
  • Works with the Project Manager on the project takeoff and estimating
  • Provides document control for multiple aspects of the project
  • Walks the jobs for new and current projects to gain an understanding of the scope of work and requirements
  • Updates and maintains the profit log for the project
  • Assists with the preparation of monthly overviews
  • Assists with special projects as deemed appropriate by Project Management

SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Construction Management or related field required
  • Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience working in the construction/electrical or related field required
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook,) required particularly in Excel
  • Must possess attention to detail
  • Ability to work cohesively with external and internal parties
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to manage multiple tasks at once and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and follow projects to completion
  • Must be a team player willing to learn new skills
  • Ability to think “out of the box” for continuous process improvement
  • Strong problem-solving skills required
  • Strong, positive customer service approach to employees, management, contractors, and customers
  • Must be able to physically work on a jobsite in a construction environment
